Most Beautiful Women in the Bible-Who are they & why?
The Bible has a lot to say about the beautiful women who have graced its pages. So who are these women and what makes them beautiful? Is their beauty merely physical or is there more to their beauty than just appearance?
We will dive into an analysis of the Most Beautiful Women in the Bible-Who are they & why? These women will uplift and encourage us with their beauty and how they use it in a powerful way.
Beauty in the Bible
Most women take pride in their beauty and how they look. Us women have been known to go to great lengths to enhance our beauty. This could be anything from putting on make-up, to using expensive beauty treatments, having trendy hairstyles, or wearing stylish clothing.
There’s nothing wrong in any of these actions but it’s important to remember that it’s our inner beauty that is more valuable than our external beauty. In the Bible, a woman’s character, how she loves the Lord and loves and serves others is what truly matters.
There are certain beauty characteristics the Lord is looking for in women. In these Bible verses about beauty we understand more about what truly makes a woman beautiful in God’s eyes.
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
1 Peter 3:3-4 NIV
The Apostle Peter encouraged women in the church to find their worth in the hidden person of the heart and not in outward beauty which doesn’t last. In the sight of God what matters is that we have a humble spirit, live for His glory, and serve and love others.
“Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain,
But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.”
Proverbs 31:30 NASB
Proverbs 31 is a powerful chapter that describes one of the most beautiful women in the Bible. She was an inspirational woman who worked hard and loved her family. But more than that she feared the Lord and that’s why she was praised and admired by many around her.
This verse shows us that love for Christ is what is eternal in the end. Physical beauty is vain and easily fades away so our focus is on building our incorruptible beauty in the Lord.
“And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
Romans 10:15 NIV
Those who bring the Gospel are beautiful in God’s eyes. His command to us is that we share the Good News about Jesus Christ to a lost world through our words and actions. When we bring more people into God’s kingdom, we become truly beautiful.
“Those who look to him are radiant,
and their faces shall never be ashamed.”
Psalm 34:5 ESV
“You are altogether beautiful, my darling,
And there is no blemish on you.”
Song of Solomon 4:7 NASB
In these scriptures on beauty, we learn that the Lord finds us truly beautiful, radiant, and perfect because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross. He died so we can be made righteous. Our identity and self-worth are in Him and not in anything we can do or even in our good looks.
“So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh.
Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
Genesis 2:21-23 NIV
When the first man, Adam was created he lived alone in the Garden of Eden. God saw that it wasn’t good for him to be alone and he made him fall into a deep sleep and from the man’s rib, the first woman, Eve, was created.
Adam was captured by Eve’s beauty and recognized that she was his flesh and bones. She was unlike any other creature Adam had seen. They were made in the same essence and beyond the physical beauty, Adam saw her inner beauty which was perfectly made in God’s image.
“Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire.”
1 Timothy 2:9 ESV
A woman should be known more for her good works than her good looks. This verse on beauty doesn’t prohibit jewelry and braiding of hair but rather that we focus less on outward beauty and more on inner beauty.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10 NKJV
God has created us for good works which He planned for us already to do in His kingdom. He has a purpose for each of us. We are here to serve God and the people He has put in our path for a purpose. Our beauty shines through when we are obedient to our calling and purpose.
“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.”
Psalm 139:14 NKJV
We are specially designed in the image of God and made so intricately and beautifully. No matter how we appear physically, to God we are a masterpiece and every part of us is made with the greatest detail in mind. We are set apart and distinct individuals.
Don’t let the world tell you any different. Everyone else’s opinion on beauty differs. If everyone else’s idea of what beauty is or looks like is different, how do you keep up? It’s not worth your worth to try and fit the mold someone else is trying to create. Be the beauty God created you alone to be.
“[Growing in grace] they will still thrive and bear fruit and prosper in old age;
They will flourish and be vital and fresh [rich in trust and love and contentment].”
Psalm 92:14 AMP
According to the standard of beauty in the world, the young women who are fresh and physically beautiful by its standards are the ones in demand for everything. But God’s Word says when we abide in Him, we grow older by grace and will continue to flourish and bear fruit.
We prosper as women when we step into the truth of who God made us to be and the true calling He has placed on our lives. Yes, you have a purpose and a calling from God too!
We won’t expire or be discarded by the Lord. Rather, we will always be valuable in His sight. We have the ability to share this wisdom with younger women in our midst or those who feel beat down by the standards the world continues to create and change.
Beautiful Women in the Bible
There are several beautiful women mentioned in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. These holy women are not only known because of their good looks. They were popular for their faith, great courage, kindness, and obedience to the Lord.
They were strong women with a deep love for God and others. These are truly our heroines and role models. Let’s take a look at some of the Most Beautiful Women in the Bible.
Sarah
Sarah’s husband Abraham is one of the most important patriarchs in the Bible. He was a man of faith. Sarah was a beautiful woman and when Abraham went with her to a foreign land, he knew her beauty would cause a stir so he pretended that Sarah was his sister so that they wouldn’t kill him and take her.
“It came about, when he was approaching Egypt, that he said to his wife Sarai, “See now, I know that you are a beautiful woman; and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. Please say that you are my sister so that it may go well for me because of you, and that I may live on account of you.”
Genesis 12:11-13 NASB
As Abraham’s wife, Sarah waited for many years to see the fulfillment of God’s promises. He would be the father of many nations.
While Sarah’s beauty is mentioned in the Bible, we know that she is remembered for her faith as she waited for God’s promises for a son to be fulfilled in old age. She teaches us to wait for the Lord and truly trust in Him.
“By faith even Sarah herself received the ability to conceive [a child], even [when she was long] past the normal age for it, because she considered Him who had given her the promise to be reliable and true [to His word].”
Hebrews 11:11 AMP
Rebekah
In Genesis 24, we learn that when Abraham was old, he wanted his servant to help him look for a wife for his son Isaac. The servant went to the city of Nahor where Abraham came from and asked God for a sign.
He had his camels and went to the spring of water. He asked God that the young lady who gave him and his camels water would be the right wife for Isaac. The moment Rebekah came to the spring of water the servant noticed that she had a beautiful figure and appearance.
“The young woman was very attractive in appearance, a maiden whom no man had known. She went down to the spring and filled her jar and came up.”
Genesis 24:16 ESV
But this external beauty was not enough to qualify as the right wife for Isaac. So the servant asked her for water which she quickly gave him. Then using her own initiative without being asked she drew water and gave his camels as well.
This showed her kindness, generosity, and hospitality to strangers making her the right wife for Isaac. Her kind actions showed the beauty of her character.
Queen Vashti
The first queen we read about in the Book of Esther is Queen Vashti who was beautiful according to the world’s standards. Her husband King Ahasuerus (Xerxes) wanted to show off her good looks to the people he was hosting at his palace and called for her.
She refused to come which made the king angry. This disrespect to her husband caused her to lose her position as queen (Esther 1:10-21).
Her story teaches us the importance of being respectful to our husbands as Christian women. Our true beauty shines through when we submit to the Lord. There is a blessing in obeying God’s commands.
Queen Esther
Esther was a young woman who lived with his cousin Mordecai after her parents passed away. When Queen Vashti was removed from her position as queen because of disobeying the king, a wide search followed for a new queen.
Esther was one of the young girls chosen to be in the running as a future queen. She went through months of beauty treatments in the palace and finally, she was presented before the king. She was the most beautiful woman and became the new queen of King Ahasuerus.
“The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she won grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.”
Esther 2:17 ESV
However, Esther is remembered for more than her outward appearance. She is known for her faith, loyalty, wisdom, and courage.
When her people the Jews were about to be killed, she instructed the Jews to fast and pray with her for the Lord to give them wisdom, guidance, and a way out of this situation.
“Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.”
Esther 4:16 ESV
In the end, her great courage saved the Jewish nation from destruction. She showed her strong faith in God and loyalty to her people. She is an inspiration to all Christian women because of her actions.
Bathsheba
Bathsheba was Uriah’s wife and Uriah was a military man. She was beautiful to look at and when David saw her, he admired her and wanted her for himself.
King David had seen a lot of beautiful women around him so for him to admire and ask about Bathsheba showed that she had exceptional looks.
“One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.”
2 Samuel 11:2-3 NIV
As a military wife, she was supposed to be loyal to her husband. But Bathsheba was unfaithful to her husband with King David and became pregnant with David’s child.
Her story shows us that a woman’s beauty can lead us down a path where we make mistakes and have deep regrets. We may not know every piece to Bathsheba’s story or why she made the decision she did. Her story is a great example of how beauty can unintentionally lead us into trouble if we aren’t careful.
Mary the Mother of Jesus
We don’t get details of Mary’s physical appearance in the Bible but as a young woman who was told that she would be pregnant with Jesus, the Son of God, we can admire her faith and trust in God.
She is known for her beautiful personality which made her faithful in carrying the Messiah and Savior of the world. She was wise, strong, and a true inspiration and role model.
Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene was a woman who had been healed by Jesus Christ from evil spirits and diseases (Luke 8:1-3) She became a disciple of Jesus Christ and alongside other women supported His ministry.
She was also the first person Jesus appeared to when He rose from the dead (John 20:11-18). Her loyalty, generosity, and dedication to serving Jesus and His mission on earth make her a woman with unfading beauty.
Dorcas
We learn about Dorcas in the New Testament after she died. She cared for widows in her community helping them physically with clothing. She showed kindness, compassion, and love and when she died the widows mourned for her.
She was a disciple of Jesus Christ and an example of a woman with a lasting impact on her community. When she died, the widows mourned for her and Apostle Peter came and raised her from the dead.
Many believed in the Lord because of this miracle (Acts 9:36-43). She wasn’t good in her own eyes but in the eyes of others. Nothing is mentioned about her outward appearance but she was a woman with true beauty because of her generous and kind heart.
Our outer beauty can be a blessing but when we focus too much on just the outside, it can lead to pride and even worse. These examples show us how inner beauty is what really counts and builds our character and has eternal reward.
The standards of beauty set by the world are all focused on what is temporary while God’s standards are based on what will last. May this list of the Most Beautiful Women in the Bible inspire and encourage you to focus on inner beauty and finding your identity and worth in the Lord.
