The Beauty-Boosting Benefits of Bone Broth: Glow from the Inside Out
If there’s one ancient wellness secret that deserves a spot in every woman’s beauty and wellness routine, it’s bone broth. This nutrient-dense elixir isn’t just a passing health trend—it’s a time-honored tradition that has been nourishing bodies and enhancing beauty for centuries.
If you’re looking for a way to strengthen your hair and nails, achieve glowing skin, support gut health, and maintain a youthful vibrance, bone broth may just become your new beauty essentials. Packed with collagen, minerals, and amino acids, bone broth supports beauty from the inside out. Whether you sip it on its own, add it to soups, or use it as a base for nourishing meals, the benefits are undeniable.
As a hairstylist, I am often asked about various ways to help our hair and nails grow, and to make our skin glow and look vibrant, regardless of our age. Bone broth is one of the greatest beauty secrets that doesn’t get nearly enough attention. Let’s dive into why bone broth should be a part of your clean and healthy beauty routine and lifestyle.
A Collagen Powerhouse for Youthful, Radiant Skin
One of the biggest beauty benefits of bone broth is its rich collagen content. Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies, responsible for keeping our skin plump, firm, and wrinkle-free. As we age, collagen production naturally declines, leading to fine lines, sagging skin, and loss of elasticity. But here’s the good news: consuming bone broth can help replenish your body’s collagen levels and slow down visible signs of aging.
When you drink bone broth, your body absorbs collagen in the form of gelatin, which is broken down into amino acids like glycine and proline. These amino acids are essential for skin repair, hydration, and elasticity. Instead of relying on expensive collagen creams that only work on the surface, why not nourish your skin from within?
Strong, Healthy Hair and Nails
Brittle nails and thinning hair? Bone broth to the rescue! The same collagen that benefits your skin also strengthens your nails and promotes hair growth. Biotin, another key nutrient found in bone broth, plays a crucial role in maintaining strong and healthy hair and nails. Regularly consuming this superfood can help prevent breakage, split ends, and dry, lackluster strands.
Additionally, bone broth is rich in essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus—all of which contribute to the health of your hair, skin, and nails. If you’ve been struggling with weak nails or lackluster hair, adding bone broth to your diet can be a game-changer.
Gut Health: The Foundation of Beauty and Wellness
A healthy gut is the secret to glowing skin, better digestion, and overall wellness. If you’ve been experiencing bloating, inflammation, or skin issues like acne or eczema, your gut might need some love. Bone broth is packed with gelatin, which helps heal and seal the gut lining, reducing inflammation and promoting healthy digestion.
Poor gut health is often linked to skin issues because an inflamed digestive system can lead to toxins being released into the bloodstream, causing breakouts and irritation. By incorporating bone broth into your diet, you’re giving your gut the nourishment it needs to function optimally. The result? Clear, radiant skin and improved digestion.
Bone and Joint Support for Graceful Aging
As women, we need to prioritize bone and joint health, especially as we age. Bone broth is an excellent source of glucosamine and chondroitin, compounds that support joint health and reduce inflammation. Whether you’re an active woman, a busy mom, or simply looking to maintain mobility as you age, bone broth provides the building blocks your body needs to keep your joints flexible and pain-free.
Additionally, bone broth is loaded with calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus—essential minerals that strengthen bones and help prevent osteoporosis. If you’re looking for a natural way to support your skeletal system, this is it.

A Natural Detoxifier for Radiance from Within
Your liver plays a major role in detoxification, and guess what? Bone broth supports this process beautifully. Glycine, an amino acid found in abundance in bone broth, helps the liver function optimally by aiding in the detoxification of harmful substances. A well-functioning liver means clearer skin, balanced hormones, and improved energy levels.
Toxins from processed foods, environmental pollutants, and even beauty products can build up in the body over time. By nourishing your body with clean, whole foods like bone broth, you’re giving it the tools it needs to naturally cleanse itself, leaving you feeling and looking your best.
How to Incorporate Bone Broth into Your Beauty Routine
Now that you know the incredible benefits of bone broth, let’s talk about how you can add it to your daily routine. Here are some easy ways to enjoy this liquid gold:
- Sip It Straight – Enjoy a warm cup of bone broth in the morning or evening as a nourishing ritual. I personally drink a cup of bone broth every morning to jump-start my day with protein and nutrients hitting my gut before anything else!
- Use It as a Soup Base – Replace store-bought broth with homemade bone broth for richer, more nutritious soups. Yes, I do always keep a carton or two of store-bought bone broth on hand, but it is much more economical to make your own and it us SUPER easy to do!
- Add It to Smoothies – Freeze bone broth into cubes and blend them into your morning smoothie for an extra beauty boost.
- Make a Bone Broth Latte – Add a splash of coconut milk, turmeric, and black pepper for an anti-inflammatory, beauty-boosting drink.
- Use Bone Broth Protein Powder– Sneak your bone broth in just about anything you eat or drink. Bone broth protein powders come in different flavors like chocolate or vanilla for a little sweet treat addition, or unflavored if you want to add it to hearty dishes. Paleovalley and Ancestral Nutrition are my go-to bone broth protein powders.
Choosing the Best Bone Broth
To get the maximum benefits, opt for high-quality, organic bone broth made from grass-fed & finished, pasture-raised animals. If you opt for store-bought, be sure to read the labels. I cannot stress this enough. Most brands of bone broth have unnecessary additives like natural flavors and are made from concentrate.
When purchasing bone broth, opt for brands that are free from additives, preservatives, and artificial ingredients. The fewer the ingredients, the better! My go-to store-bought brand is Kettle and Fire Bone Broth. They offer a variety of flavors, including Chicken, Beef, Mushroom Chicken, Turmeric Ginger, and more.
If you’re making it at home, use bones from organic chicken or grass-fed and finished beef. Simmer the bones for at least 12 hours to extract all the valuable nutrients. I use a whole chicken and make two to three batches in a row. The bones can be used up to three times to make multiple batches. See my recipe below for my exact method!
